Eptisa will carry out the exploitation of the water quality monitoring network of lakes and reservoirs in Jucar River Basin

The project has a budget of 1,138,746 euros financed by the Ministry of Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs

July 29 2011

The Ministry of Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs, through the General Directorate for Water, has awarded Eptisa and Laboratoris Vidal Joint Venture the technical assistance for the exploitation of water quality monitoring network project in the Jucar River Basin (JRB) field.

The main objective of the project is the exploitation of the biological monitoring network in lakes and reservoirs located within the JRB, according to the Water Framework Directive. The amount of this contract is 1.138.746 Euros and will be implemented between 2011 and 2013.

The principal works that Eptisa - Laboratorios Vidal Joint Venture will carry out are:

  • Surveillance and/or Operative monitoring network in interior lakes: 14 control stations are planned in the provisional monitoring network of interior lakes, 6 of which correspond to lakes and 3 to lagoon complexes. A sample of the water column, sediment and biota will be chosen and monitored twice a year. All the biological quality elements have to be measured in all the stations. Also, in all the points with enough depth will be prepared physicochemical profiles in situ, will be measured the Secchi disk depth, and will be taken water samples for physicochemical and biological analysis.
  • Surveillance and/or Operative monitoring network in coastal wetlands: 21 control stations are planned in 9 wetlands, in which all the quality elements will be studied. These stations will be monitored twice a year too.
  • Reservoirs monitoring network: 29 reservoirs will be monitored and, depending on their characteristics, will be established between one and three stations per reservoir. In each station, a sample of the water column, sediment and biota will be chosen. Annually will be carried out four control campaign, together with other two specific summer campaigns in those reservoirs where environmental incidences occur during summer time.

The obtained information will allow determining the ecological status and/or ecological potential of these water bodies, according to the Water Framework Directive and the Spanish regulations.
