Eptisa supervises the construction of several courts in Guatemala under the Programme SEJUST

Since July Eptisa is carrying out supervision activities of the works that are being developed under the Programme to Security and Justice Sector (SEJUST) in Guatemala, financed by the European Union.

The works, which will last about a year, involve the construction of two courts, the first one in the Municipality of Libertad (Department of Petén) and the second in the Municipality of San Pedro Carchá (Department of Alta Verapaz), as well as the construction or remodelling of five workrooms in several juvenile detention centres of the Ministry of Social Welfare.

Last Friday November 27 took place the official foundation stone laying ceremony in the Multi-Member Court of First Instance Criminal, Drug Trafficking Activities and Crimes against the Environment, in the town of San Pedro Carcha, Alta Verapaz.

The ceremony was led by the President of the Judicial Body and the Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation in Guatemala, accompanied by the acting Mayor of San Pedro Carchá, the SEJUST Program Manager, as well as the Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The Programme SEJUST is aimed to improve the justice and security sectors to allow it to operate more effectively in prosecution and investigation of crime and guarantee due process by protecting the rights of victims and vulnerable groups seeking rehabilitation, reintegration and education of the lawbreakers.

As part of the Programme to support Security and Justice Sector, Eptisa provides technical assistance services in areas such as strengthening of the justice sector institutions, support to processes of training and professionalization of actors, improvement of criminal investigation methods and prosecution of crime, as well as strengthening of penitentiary system and civil society.
